The FMCBC has four active listservs on Groups.io:
Reps – reps@fmcbc.groups.io – This listserv is used to communicate important information to all FMCBC club representatives. FMCBC reps are automatically added to this listserv. All clubs need to have at least one person on this listserv, which is used as the main form of communication between the FMCBC and its member clubs.
Directors – directors@fmcbc.groups.io – This listserv is used by the FMCBC’s Board of Directors to communicate important information among its members.
SWBC Recreation and Conservation – reccon@fmcbc.groups.io – This listserv is used by the FMCBC’s Southwest BC Recreation and Conservation Committee to communicate information among committee members, but many clubs find it useful to have a member receiving these emails. To request to have your email address added to the group, please email: reccon+subscribe@fmcbc.groups.io.
Provincial Recreation and Conservation – provreccon@fmcbc.groups.io – This listserv is used by the FMCBC’s Provincial Recreation and Conservation Committee to communicate information among committee members, but many clubs find it useful to have a member receiving these emails. To request to have your email address added to the group, please email: provreccon+subscribe@fmcbc.groups.io
Please be respectful when using the listserv – it is not a place to argue with or slander others. It is for communication and discussion.
What is Groups.io?
Groups.io is essentially an advanced listserv service. Just like with the listservs we’ve used in the past, you’ll still be able to contact members of your group via a specific email address and reply to all messages by email as well. But with Groups.io, you can also choose to log into the website and view archived conversations, upload files, connect with other members, and change your email settings as often as you’d like (just to name a few of its many features).
Using Groups.io
Directors, Reps, Reps-Insurance: Directors and Clubs Reps are automatically added to these listservs, as appropriate.
Southwest BC Recreation & Conservation Committee: To request to have your email address added to the group, please email: reccon+subscribe@fmcbc.groups.io.
Once you’ve been added, you’ll receive a welcome email saying you’ve been added to the “Main” group*, and another welcoming you to the specific subgroup (such as SWBC Rec & Con).
You’re now a part of the listserv and are ready to start sending and receiving emails!
*To clarify, the “Main” group (main@fmcbc.groups.io) isn’t a real group. It’s just a “holding” group that all of our Groups.io members must be part of before they can be added to the actual groups (such as the Directors or Rec & Con groups, for example). It’s just the way Groups.io works. Nobody can post to this group or email the email address.
To send a new message to the SWBC Rec & Con group, email: reccon@fmcbc.groups.io
To send a new message to the Directors group, email: directors@fmcbc.groups.io
To send a new message to the Reps group, email: reps@fmcbc.groups.io
Messages from group members will be sent to the group automatically, while messages from non-members are moderated to filter out spam. All FMCBC members as well as members of the public are able to send messages to any of the FMCBC groups.
If you receive an email from the listserv and would like to reply to it, you can reply just to the original email author, or to everyone on the listserv.
- To send an email to the original author, use “reply”
- To send an email to everyone on the listserv, use “reply all”
Please be respectful and only send an email to the listserv if it should be discussed by or will be of interest to multiple people. Otherwise, just reply to the original author, or send an individual email.
To turn off duplicate emails, log into your account. Then, look for the dropdown in the top right corner of the page, which will be either your name or email address. Click that and then click Account. From your Account page, click the Preferences sidebar tab. Look for the “I always want copies of my own messages” checkbox and uncheck that. Then click the Update Preferences button.
If you receive an email but don’t want to receive further emails on the topic, you can choose to “mute” the topic. To do so, scroll down to the very bottom of the email and click “Mute This Topic.” The conversation will still be archived on the Groups.io site, so you can always choose to log in and read the messages at a later time.
Using the Groups.io website
If you’d like to use the Groups.io website and its many features (which we strongly encourage!), you’ll need to set up a password.
- Go to https://fmcbc.groups.io.
- Click “Log in” in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click “Email me a link to log in”
- Type in your email address and click “Email link to log in”
- You’ll soon receive an email with a link. Click it.
- You’ll see that you’re logged in the site, but you still need to set your password, which can be done by accessing your account details in the upper right-hand corner.
If you wish, you can go to the “Identity” tab in your account details to add your name, a photo, and additional personal information to your profile.
All of your groups will be listed under “Your Groups” in the upper left-hand corner. As mentioned before, the “Main” group is just an administrative group with no activity. You can’t send emails to it, nor will you receive any from it. Ignore that group.
To change how and when you receive emails, click “Manage my Subscriptions” under the “Your Groups” dropdown. You’ll see a list of the groups you’re subscribed to. Click the last link in each row (under the “Delivery” header) to change your email preferences for that specific group.
Click “New Topic” on the main menu (on the left).
View a chronological list of past messages by clicking on “Messages.”
If you send an email with an attachment (such as letters, PUPs, policies, or other relevant documents) we strongly encourage you to upload those files to your group. Otherwise, they become difficult to find and will most likely be forgotten.
Uploading is easy–just go to the “Files” section on the left and upload your file with a description. To keep everything organized, feel free to create new folders by regions–>issues.
