Congratulations on being accepted as a member of the Federation of Mountain Clubs of British Columbia (FMCBC). We are excited to have you as a member club and we look forward to supporting your non-motorized recreational adventures.

This email details the next steps in becoming a member club, important information and services you can now access, and some other nuts and bolts. If you have additional questions, feel free to get in touch.

Next Steps

Club Reps

On your team, you will need to appoint an FMCBC Club Rep. This person will be receiving all updates from the FMCBC and relaying them back to your team. The FMCBC sends out key communications about opportunities, insurance, and other information, so it is important to appoint someone to receive this information and convey it to your club. You can also appoint an alternate.

Communications

The majority of FMCBC communication is done through groups.io. This platform allows us to send and store important communication between the FMCBC and clubs. Shortly, the Club Rep you listed in your application will be added to the Reps group. It is very important for your rep to join this mailing list because key communications including insurance and fee updates, calls for submission, and other messages will be sent through the group email throughout the year.  It is required the Club Rep accept the invitation that is sent through Groups.io.

If you would like someone added to the distribution list, other than your Club Rep, please contact admin.manager@mountainclubs.org with the name of the person and the email you would like added.

The FMCBC publishes a quarterly email newsletter, as well as our bi-annual Cloudburst digital publication. The email newsletter includes important updates, relevant BC news and FMCBC news. Your Rep will receive this newsletter, and we encourage them to share it with the rest of your club. Individuals are encouraged to join the email newsletter mailing list as well, please share this link with them: https://mountainclubs.org/subscribe/ so they can sign up.

You can also contact us by email. Our Communications Manager, Zanna Ekeroth, is your first point of contact and can be reached at admin.manager@mountainclubs.org. Feel free to reach out any time!

Fees and Payments

You will receive an invoice directly for the fees of joining the FMCBC. Payment is due 30 days after receiving your invoice.

Payments are accepted by e-transfer to e-payment@mountainclubs.org or by cheque. Cheques can be made out to the Federation of Mountain Clubs or British Columbia.

Cheques must be mailed to:

Liz Bicknell

Memberships are to be renewed annually. Membership fees are $8 per member and insurance fees are $14/individual. FMCBC membership dues are based on a club’s membership count on March 15th, and on September 15th, if the club’s membership has increased. A membership and insurance renewal request will be sent to your club in mid-March, followed by a request to update your member count in September.

Member Club Grants

In 2012, the FMCBC began a grant program to support projects initiated by our member clubs. FMCBC Member Club Grants have been used to fund trail upgrades, backcountry huts, trail extensions, equipment purchases, educational events, community events and so much more. To see a list of past projects we have funded, explore our past grant recipients

We are now accepting Member Club Grant applications. The deadline to apply is May 31st at 11:59pm.
